A MUST READ FOR SUMMER!

If you havent already read Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl, pick it up today, you will not be disappointed!!!!

Overview

Marriage can be a real killer.
One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Chicago Tribune proclaimed that her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?
As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?
With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

My Review:

This is a Must read for the summer!!!!!

WOW!!!  If you haven’t read this book I highly recommend you add it to your summer reading! Gillian Flynn is a Brilliant writer and this thriller is brilliant, will keep you up late reading to the end. You won’t be able to put it done as you will want to know what happens next. There are twist and turns that will have you shocked and mesmerized .Love, hate, affairs, malice, anger, and murder are what you will find in this story. They are what will keep you reading until your eyes are so tired. That was how it was for me but I wanted, I needed to know what was going to take place.

This story grabbed me from the beginning and pulled me right into it. It was the morning of their anniversary and Nick receives a call from his neighbor that his door is open and the cat is outside. So Nick comes home to put the cat back in the house, but what he finds is his house in disarray as if there had been a struggle and his wife of five years gone. But was this a murder or was it a sick plot of revenge. Amy has left clues for Nick as a treasure hunt for their anniversary of all the places they have been together. The clues will lead him to his anniversary surprise. Did Nick kill his wife, that is what it looks like and all the evidence is pointed right at him?

Has someone kidnapped her or was it all a game of some sick twisted mind? And what made her leave clues as to where she is if she was? Pick up the book and find out for yourself.

A Fantastic book. Gillian Flynn gets in to your head as you learn more of Amy and Nick. This Psychological Thriller is the Best I have read this summer!

Dark Moon by Maggie Tideswell

Dark Moon by Maggie Tideswell
9/28/2011

Overview

A spellbinding novel of love, murder, and the supernatural.
Chance meetings can have far-reaching effects. Loved ones may not be who they
seem. The line between comprehension and confusion is thin ~ particularly when one's thoughts are being manipulated by another.
In Dark Moon, the eternal triangle takes an innovative twist into the occult as dark magic fights against those who serve the Light.
The prize? A woman's soul.

My Review:

Dark Moon is Maggie Tideswell’s first novel and it is a good one. The beginning of it had a slow start as she introduced everyone but after that it was a keep you on the edge wanting to know what was going to happen next. Set in beautiful South Africa where Maggie lives. I liked how she paints the picture of Cape Town to pull you in as if you are right there. What an amazing read. She does not disappoint with this novel!

Dark Moon is a Brilliant, luxurious love story filled with mystery, romance, suspense, sadness and magic. This amazing journey will keep you on the edge with its twist and turns until you reach the intense ending that will leave you surprised and shocked. As you get to know the character. Some you may like more than others but you see how they all tie together and make this story so unique. Will there be a murder? Will someone fall in love?  Will there be betrayal? Will there be a pregnancy? Pick up the book today and find out for yourself.

I gave this novel 4 out of 5 stars.

Overview

Winter is big business in small-town Snowflake, Vermont. Tourists arrive to hit the ski slopes—and what could be more satisfying after a chilly day of carving powder than a steaming bowl of soup?

When Lucky Jamieson inherits her parents' soup shop, By the Spoonful, she realizes it's time to take stock of her life. Should she sell her parents' house or move in herself? Does she really want to run a restaurant business? And what about her grandfather Jack, who seems to be showing signs of Alzheimer's?
But her life decisions are moved to the back burner after an icy blonde tourist is found frozen to death behind the soup shop. and Lucky is bowled over when her soup chef, Sage DuBois, is led out of the kitchen by the police. As suspicion and speculations snowball, Lucky decides that the only way to save her employee and her business is to find out herself who iced the tourist—and landed her chef in the soup...

With a lot on her plate she takes the responsiblity of running the shop with the helpof her grandfather Jack and her chef Sage. But did she take on more than she could handle ? Peg Cochran has stopped by today! Come over and say Hi!

Lets give a Warm welcome to Peg Cochran author of Allergic to Death being released August 7th!!!!!

Tell me a little about yourself Peg.
I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was seven years old and read my first Nancy Drew.  I majored in journalism in college but ended up working in the art world for many years managing a gallery in New York City owned by the son of the artist Henri Matisse.  From there I managed to segue into marketing communications.  My first husband died and I remarried, following my new husband out to Grand Rapids, Michigan where he had taken a job. I now live here “on exile” from New Jersey!  I have two daughters, a granddaughter, a rather crazy cat and a Westhighland white Terrier who just happens to be named Reg like the dog in my Gourmet De-Lite series.

What inspired you to write Allergic to Death?

Cozies were, and still are, selling very well.  I thought I might have the right voice for one so I gave it a try.  It was a great fit!
Every cozy needs a strong “hook,” so encouraged by some
writer friends, I decided to create a character who makes gourmet diet meals for a small group of clients.  There are a lot of cooking and “foodie” cozies out there, but no one had done anything exactly like this.

How did your Heroine come about?

When I was in Boston I saw a plaque that said “I have an Irish temper and an Italian attitude,” and I thought that’s my character!  She is officially Giovanna (Gigi) Fitzgerald—her name giving a nod to both nationalities.

What are you working on now?

Right now I am working on the third book in the Gourmet De-lite series (no title as of yet) and thinking bout the third book in my series written under my pen name of Meg London.  Murder Unmentionable, the first in the Sweet Nothings Lingerie series debuts in September.

Can you tell us a little about what is next for Gigi?
In Steamed to Death (assuming marketing keeps that title <g>), Gigi takes on a high profile client, soap star Felicity Davenport, whose country house is in Woodstone, Connecticut.  When Felicity turns up dead, Gigi’s best friend Sienna becomes the chief suspect.  Gigi and Reg work together to prove that Sienna didn’t do it. Oh, and did I mention Declan McQuaid?  He is the newest restaurateur in town running Declan’s Grille.  He’s, Irish, charming and very handsome.  And he’s very attracted to Gigi!

Thank you so much for joining us today. I look forward to your upcoming book!!

Rochelle Staab stops by today to talk about her new book!

It is a pleasure to be with Rochelle Staab today as we talk about her new book Bruja Brouhaha. Rochelle, thank you for joining us!

I’m thrilled to be here on your blog today, Shelley. I have so much fun talking with mystery lovers. I’ve been a mystery fan forever!

Tell us a little about yourself.

A Midwest native, I spent my twenties working as a Top 40 radio executive in Manhattan and Los Angeles, and then I moved into another fun and rewarding career at Warner Bros. Records. I had the privilege to work with some of the most dynamic people in the entertainment industry. In 2007 I decided to do some creating of my own and left the comfort zone of the music business to become a novelist. I’ve been very fortunate—I sold the first novel I wrote, WHO DO, VOODOO? to Berkley Prime Crime. WHO DO, VOODOO? achieved bestselling status on release and garnered four award nominations including Agatha and Anthony nominations. My second novel, BRUJA BROUHAHA, a continuation of the Mind For Murder Mystery series, is hitting bookshelves. I’m as nervous as a new mother.

How did you come up with the Title of this book?

BRUJA BROUHAHA evolved as I researched various forms of the occult while plotting. I set the story near MacArthur Park, a multi-cultural section of Los Angeles where locals practice multiple versions of the supernatural including Santeria and Santa Muerte. Mexican black magic is called Brujeria (broo-ha-REE-a) and a practicing black magic witch is a bruja (broo-ha). One of the central characters is accused of being a bruja and the word stuck in my mind. I looked for a word to go with bruja to project a mess or big trouble, and stumbled on brouhaha—a perfect match. I was so excited when my publisher agreed.

Can you tell us a little of what is next for this series?

After BRUJA BROUHAHA, Liz Cooper and Nick Garfield
continue their occult-themed adventures in May 2013 in the third
novel in the Mind For Murder Mystery series. It’s too
early for spoilers but I’ll give you a hint. Book three is a devil of
a story involving exes: ex-husbands, ex-neighbors, ex-
girlfriends, ex-in-laws, ex-neighborhoods...

What are you working on now?
This summer I’m doing promo for the BRUJA
BROUHAHA release on wonderful blogs like yours, a
chance for me to step away from the computer for a bit to
spend time with readers and old friends. After my round of
joyful socializing it’s back to the keyboard to research,
plot, and then write my fourth novel. I have a fun idea, just
need to sleep on it a few more nights.

What book are you reading now and do you have a favorite Author?

I’m a mystery vagabond. My favorite author is the one who
wrote whatever mystery I’m reading at the moment. I’ve
been known to spend months reading an entire series by
same author: Cleo Coyle, Hank Phillippi Ryan, Harlan
Coben, Michael Connelly, Elizabeth Peters, Louise
Penny, going as far back as Carolyn Keen’s Nancy Drew
series, Raymond Chandler, Arthur Conan Doyle. After I
exhaust my rapture with a series, I’m on to the next. I’m
excited to read Hank Phillippi Ryan’s new release, THE
OTHER WOMAN, in September. Currently trying to carve
out time to read GONE GIRL.  If I could have dinner with a
favorite fictional mystery character—current or classic—
my choice would be a tossup between Nancy Drew
(childhood hero) and Harlan Coben’s Win Lockwood
(because he’s sooo bad/interesting.)

Thank you so much for inviting me, Shelley! Now I have a question for your readers: Which character would YOU choose to dine with? Dish it up.

Rochelle Staab, a former award-winning Top 40 radio programmer and Warner Bros. Records advertising and marketing executive, blended her fascination with the supernatural and her love for mystery in her Mind for Murder Mystery series for Berkley Prime Crime. Her bestselling first novel, WHO DO, VOODOO? was nominated for Anthony, Agatha, Eureka!, and Golden Heart awards. Her second novel, BRUJA BROUHAHA is out on August 7.

Heather Blake author of A Witch Before Dying Stops by today! Come over and say Hi to her!

Today I have the Pleasure of chatting with Heather Blake Author of A Witch Before Dying, book two in the Wishcraft Series!  Heather , just want to say thank you for joining us today! Don't forget to add this great read to your list! RELEASE DATE AUGUST 7, 2012!

Good Afternoon Heather,

Tell us a little about yourself.

Honestly, I’m just your average mom next door who happens to make stuff up for a living. Family is everything to me (which I think comes across in my books), and I’m a total homebody. I love reading, Reality TV, crocheting (though I’m not all that good), and Dr Pepper.

Where did you come up with the idea for this series?

It actually started as a Fairy Godmother series, but didn’t feel quite right. I wanted to keep the magic, though, so I started playing with other ideas, and when my agent and editor suggested witches, it just fit. I adored I DREAM OF JEANNIE and BEWITCHED growing up, so this series is really my homage to those shows.

Who or what inspired you to become a writer/Author?

It was actually my husband who inspired me. Years and years ago I woke up from a dream and proclaimed that it would make a great book. He looked at me and said, “Write it.” I was naive enough to try. That manuscript is now covered in a layer of dust in my closet, but it sparked the passion. I haven’t looked back.

Can you tell us a little about what is coming next in the series?

In A Witch Before Dying, the second book in the series, Darcy is still learning more and more about her abilities and also the dynamic within the Enchanted Village. She’s really starting to discover who she is on many levels as she investigates a hoarder found dead beneath her piles of clutter. The next book, THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE WITCHY will be out next April. In it, Darcy is investigating the murder of a young man in the village—because his ghost has attached to her! It’s fun yet endearing at the same time. I really became attached to that character—and so did Darcy.

I'm also starting a new witch series, the Love Potion Shop mysteries, which will debut in the fall of 2013.

What are the first 5 books in your TBR List?

Oh, tough one. Let’s see.

1) Pies and Prejudice by Ellery Adams
2) A Wedding Homerun in Loveland, Ohio by Cathy Liggett
3) A Charming Cure by Tonya Kappes
4) My One Square Inch of Alaska by Sharon Short (ARC)
5) A Bad Day for Scandal by Sophie Littlefield

Thanks, Shelley!

Heather
