Skinnytinis by Teresa Marie Howes --blog tour

Thank you for visiting with us today Teresa, I love this book and hope others will too!
My interview and review with Teresa Marie Howes!

Tell us about yourself?

By nature, I am a health enthusiast, avid runner and self proclaimed Skinny Mixologist, which is supported by my first title being published “SkinnyTinis—All the Fun for Half the Calories.”  I studied Nutrition in undergrad and earned my masters degree in business in 2004. I started my career in the consulting in the weight loss industry in 1999. These are the ingredients for certainly knowing the “right” things to do when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. I am also well versed in the challenges that an active social and travel calendar can infringe on ones best efforts to do these “right” things.  As it turns out, what’s “right” isn’t always “realistic” and that’s where my personal experience plays a key role. I have battled out the conflict of “right” and “realistic” in the bars, on the road and on vacation for 15+ years – and now in my mid-thirties and at a weight less than I weighed in high school, I’m feeling pretty confident in my strategies and am eager to share them!

Through personal and professional experience, I’ve learned how detrimental the “all or nothing” approach to diet can be to one’s health and throughout my career have found that it's more effective to empower people to live long, healthy lives without having to sacrifice everyday joys. I strongly believe that with a little discipline, determination and ingenuity, there is no reason we can’t have all. That’s why I’m so passionate about writing and sharing with my community the tools, tips and tricks that can be utilized so our waistlines stay minimized.

My professional writing career started in 2008 when I began writing “SkinnyTinis – All the Fun for Half the Calories.” It was published by Wiley in 2009, released in paperback in 2013 and will always exist as the original low calorie cocktail recipe book. Pioneering the field of skinny cocktails was my first effort in illustrating the balance between “right” and “realistic.” Today I blog regularly at “Eat, Drink and Be Skinny – A Fun Girls’ Guide to having it All” and is still enjoying a  fun, fancy, fit lifestyle in sunny San Diego.

What are you working on now?

With the recent paperback release of “SkinnyTinis – All the Fun for Half the Calories” I am currently focused on regenerating a buzz and spreading the word. Now at just $9.99, anybody can easily get their hands on 70 easy to make, delicious and satisfying SkinnyTini recipes. However, I do believe that there is so much more to healthy lifestyle than just tricky little ways to lower calories in your cocktails. I started the blog “Eat, Drink and Be Skinny – A Fun Girls Guide to having it All.” The goal is to share my insights beyond the cocktail lounge. I’m an avid runner and work lean and clean in the kitchen. I’d love to create a portal of information and inspiration on how to live a healthy, balanced and FUN lifestyle. I’ve experienced a lot in my 15 years of legal drinking age and really look forward to the opportunity to share all that I’ve learned and created. I also spend a great deal of time pounding the pavement and am looking forward to running my first Boston Marathon in 2013 and the bulk of my energy goes to supporting my full time career as a Franchise Business Consultant in the weight loss industry. Helping local communities spread the health and wellness message through national brand recognition is an incredibly satisfying ways to spend time.

Do you have a favorite comfort read?

Yes! I love the Stephanie Bloom series by Janet Evanovich. They are like junk food for the brain. Totally empty calories but so enjoyable. I call them one way reads meaning you better bring another book on a trip because you burn through them so quickly. I love to escape into her quirky adventures. She’s so innocently fearless, and the cartoony characters are so loveable. I find these reads a great way to burn a few hours.

If you could live in any book what one would you choose and why?

Well I said that one of my favorite reads of 2013 was the “Rules of Civility” by Amor Towles. New York city is precious and the late sixties seem to have been the time to be there. The novel opens up at an art exhibit where Towles states “At formal gatherings, somehow it had become acceptable, even stylish, to be drunk before eight.” Ahhh…those must have been the days. Now you don’t even hit the streets until well after 10 and that is rough on a runners’ lifestyle.

my review: This is a great book for those who like martinis but are also watching thier weight and eating Healthy. The recipes in here are scruptious and inviting. Throw a party with your girlfriends and make sure to include some of these amazing drinks!

More than 70 ways to enjoy cocktail hour–without worrying about the calories
For people watching their weight, enjoying the occasional cocktail can be a problem, since the average mixed drink contains over 300 calories. Now Teresa Howes comes to the rescue with scores of cocktail recipes that average only 142 calories each–but have the same great flavor and alcohol content as their full-calorie counterparts. From a Skinny Appletini and a Skinny Cosmopolitan to a Skinny Mojito and a Skinny Margarita, these guilt-free drinks feature low-sugar or sugar-free mixers, fresh fruit, and other clever ways to cut the calories. With 39 beautiful color photographs plus a section on diet-friendly drinks people can order at a bar or restaurant, SkinnyTinis is a must-have guide for weight-conscious social drinkers everywhere.

Teresa Marie Howes is a health enthusiast, expert skinny mixologist, avid runner and published author.
