Laura Morrigan Stops by

It is a pleasure to have Laura Morrigan with us today. Her new book Woof at the Door  is out today July 2nd!!

Tell us about yourself.

Let's see...I'm a Florida native. I love to make people laugh. I have an unhealthy obsession with shoes. I love animals, even creepy-crawley ones that freak most people out. I used to work at the local zoo, which is where I gleaned a lot of inspiration for my Call of the Wild Mystery series.
(Did you like that lead in?)

How did you come up with this book?

The book was inspired by my experience with both wild and domestic animals. (I've worked in a vet office, too)  I wanted a way to bring animals into the book as characters  who could contribute to the story and decided the best way to do that was to make my protagonist, Grace, an animal telepath. I've had a great time giving each animal their own unique personality.

What are you working on next?

The second book in the this series, A Tiger's Tail, is with my editor, so I'll be doing the 1st round of edits to that soon.  I'm also starting on book 3 in the Call of the Wilde series. This one is about a stolen horse!

What do you do when writing to keep yourself focused on your work?

I am an unbelievable scatterbrain. Focusing is an extreme challenge for me, so I try to minimize any distraction when I'm trying to write. I turn on off music and close out my e-mail. And I'm lucky to have good writing friends who will do sprints with me. (We'll set a time limit, say 20 minutes, and try for the highest word count. Then compare... It's a great way to get going and stay focused!)

What are the first five books in your TBR pile?

In randome order:

Heard it Through the Grape Vine by Liz Lipperman
Still Life by Louise Penny
The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie King
MacRieve by Kresley Cole
Catching Fire by Susanne Collins

If you could have a dinner date with any character from any book who would it be and why?

Dumbledoor.
Because I'd get to got to Hogwarts!! (and I have some questions for that wizard...)

Laura Morrigan

Spending the first years of her life on a Costa Rican coffee farm blessed Laura Morrigan with a fertile imagination and a love for all things wild. Later she became a volunteer at a local zoo, helping out with everything from “waste management” to teaching an elephant how to paint. Drawing from her years of experience with both wild and domestic animals and her passion for detective novels, Laura created the Call of the Wilde series. She lives in Florida with her husband and far too many cats, loves the Blue Angels, sailing, wearing flip flops in November, and thunderstorms.

Leave a message for Laura, she would love to hear from you!
