Synopsis:
Ursula Marlow thought she was done with death, but when her fiancĂ©, Lord Wrotham, is arrested on charges of treason, her world is turned upside down. It is the winter of 1913, and the British Parliament, unsettled on the question of Home Rule for Ireland, is shaken over allegations of a plot to sell naval military secrets to Kaiser’s Germany and liberate Ireland from English rule. For the first time, Ursula must work together with Chief Inspector Harrison to uncover the truth about Lord Wrotham’s involvement, as well as his mysterious past.
As the investigation continues, Ursula is drawn into the shadowy world of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and a web of espionage and betrayal. She must race against time to clear Lord Wrotham’s name and thwart a plot that threatens not only British national security, but also her life.

My review:

I was very intrigued with this book! It captivates you from the beginning and keeps you interested and hooked until this in. A great plot and story line and the characters are strong!! This is a great read for those who love suspense and mystery!

My interview with Clare

Tell us about yourself?

I’m a ‘recovering’ attorney, wife, and mother of twin 9- year old boys. Writing has always been my passion, even as a girl growing up in Australia. I come from a pretty nomadic family – my parents are English, I was born in Canada and my sister in Australia – in fact she’s the only one who still lives in Melbourne! I currently live in Colorado with my husband, twin boys, and our beloved collie, Hamish. I credit my parents for instilling in me a love of literature and history and my writing group for encouraging me to seek publication for my Ursula Marlow novels.
What inspired you to become a writer?

I’ve always wanted to be a writer and even as a child I was scribbling stories. I think I was inspired by all the amazing books I read as a child and how they seemed to jump-start my own imagination.
How did you come up with these great books?

Ursula Marlow literally walked into my head one day, dressed in suffragette colors. I then found myself researching Edwardian history and drawing upon my own experiences traveling down the Orinoco river in Venezuela. Before I knew it, the first novel, Consequences of Sin, had begun.
Can you tell us a little of what you are working on now?

I’m currently completing a middle-grade ‘alternate history’ book and revising an adult mystery set during the First World War.
What research did you have to do for your books?
I do a lot of book based research as well as travel. I love reading journals, newspapers and magazines from the period as well as walking the streets of London to get a feel for how it must have been (even though London has changed a great deal since Edwardian times!).
When you are not writing what do you love doing?

Walking my collie, reading aloud to my boys, and attempting to do the New York Times Crossword every day.
What are three things you want your readers to know?

That I am passionate about my writing and my characters; that I value their comments and feedback as readers; and that I feel immensely lucky to be able to pursue my dream of being a writer.
If you could have a dinner party with three authors, living or dead, who would you pick and what would you serve as a meal?

Jane Austen
Georgette Heyer
Dorothy L. Sayers

I’d like to come up with something pretty witty on the
menu but I think so long as we have something suitably English we’d be fine – I would probably serve roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, minted peas, and a Trifle for dessert. These are some of my favorites after all!
