Guest Post with Kathryn O'Sullivan. Kathryn is the author of The Colleen McCabe Series .Her newest book in the series Neighing With Fire was released on May 5th.
Thanks, Shelley, for inviting me to visit with your readers to talk about Neighing with Fire, the latest book in the Colleen McCabe mystery series.
In Neighing with Fire, the summer tourist season in the Outer Banks village of Corolla starts peacefully enough for Fire Chief Colleen McCabe. She’s even allowing herself to enjoy a budding romance with friend-turned-boyfriend Sheriff Bill Dorman. After the murders of the previous year, could life in Corolla finally be returning to normal? Well, of course not… it’s a mystery… someone has to turn up dead! When a tropical storm blows in and unearths a body under a vacation home boardwalk and land developer Denny Custis dies in a suspicious fire, Colleen has a hunch the two deaths are linked and another summer of sleuthing begins.
Colleen and Bill investigate an ever-widening list of suspects and soon discover that virtually everyone has had a beef or run-in with Denny and a motive for murder. When Antonio “Pinky” Salvatore, a rival land developer, becomes the primary suspect, Colleen is determined to clear his name. The fact that Pinky has a crush on Colleen doesn’t influence her feelings about his innocence the least… but don’t try telling that to Bill.
As if solving a couple murders wasn’t enough, Colleen also has her hands full keeping an eye on the mainland arsons, dodging bridesmaid responsibilities, and avoiding becoming embroiled in battles between the town’s colorful inhabitants. Myrtle Crepe, Little Bobby, Colleen’s Border Collie, Sparky, Jimmy and the rest of the zany residents are back in the third installment. Like Foal Play and Murder on the Hoof, Neighing with Fire features real issues affecting the area such as the protection of the wild horses and encroaching development on their land as well as local sites. In fact, Shirley Landes, a reader, recommended Gold-N-Gifts jewelry store owned by the delightful Kristen Chance and one of my favorite scenes in the book is set there. You’ll have to read to find out why. Happy reading!

ReplyDeleteWonderful! The Corolla Wild Horse Fund has been working tirelessly to manage and protect the wild horses. If you ever visit the Outer Banks, you should definitely take a tour of the sanctuary area with one of their patrol specialists. Good luck with winning a book!

ReplyDeletePeople who live and visit the Outer Banks have enjoyed the series because I feature real roads, places, eateries, etc. I hope you get a chance to visit and see the horses. Horses are amazing animals. The cover is an accurate reflection of the real setting, Sue. Unfortunately, they really did have some oceanfront houses on fire recently... but no body under the walkway! Good luck winning a book!
