In the new Cheese Shop Mystery from the Agatha Award-winning author of As Gouda as Dead, an extra-sharp tongued cheese critic is cut down during a summer cheese festival.
It’s time for the annual Cheese Festival in Providence, Ohio, and Charlotte Bessette’s cheese shop is packed with homemade specialties. Meanwhile, her friend Erin is prepping her dairy farm and inn for cheese makers, marketers, journalists, and one surprise guest—Lara Berry, pretentious cheese whiz, pompous bestselling author, and pungent critic whose extra sharp tongue can crumble a reputation.
Even though any love for Lara by her friends curdled long ago, Charlotte is surprised when the foodie is smothered to death in her room at Erin’s inn. Accusations start flying, but the one laying blame on Erin strikes Charlotte as a crock. Now, to clear her friend’s name, Charlotte has to sift through Lara’s ex-lovers, former business partners, and unforgiving enemies to find a killer before Lara’s past casts a tainted pall on the festival’s future.
RECIPES INCLUDED
I have followed this series from the beginning and this is by far my favorite. With the Cheese Festival about to take place Charlotte has a lot on her plate. It's the big event of the month, Everyone is arriving a t Erin's inn for the festivities.
Author Lara Berry is one of the prominent attendees this year, so when she is murdered at the Inn all eyes shift to Erin as the top suspect. Charlotte knows that that isn't possible but has set out to find out what happened and who the killer is before it is to late. She wants to clear Erin's name and get on with the Cheese Festival.
This is such a great story and the characters are well developed and strong that keep you wanting more. You will not be disappointed with this read. The author is a fantastic story teller and with the help of her characters she takes you back to Providence Ohio for another case to solve and delicious cheese that will make your mouth water.
I Love Grilled Cheese!
By Avery Aames aka Daryl Wood Gerber
Ever since I started writing the Cheese Shop Mysteries, I have dabbled more in making luscious, savory meals. And I’ve made a ton of grilled cheese sandwiches. In fact, I even made my second Cookbook Nook Mystery revolve around a grilled cheese competition. Fun!
Why? I love a good grilled cheese. There’s something so satisfying about the warmth, the crunch, and the ooze. Now, if you add two other fabulous ingredients, you will be doing your taste buds a huge favor.
Bacon, as we all know, makes everything better. I’m not sure why. The saltiness? The texture? Or the forbidden pleasure because we know, in our hearts, that we’re not supposed to eat too much of it?
Now, if you balance out that bacon with avocado, one of the good-for-you foods, it’s not all bad, right? Did you know that avocados contain mono-unsaturated fat, the type of fat that is healthy and necessary? When you eat healthy fats, it helps boost good cholesterol levels. Yay!
I must say, I am quite good at compromise. I’m also good at making up reasons to eat what I want. I write fiction. It’s in my DNA.
What do you like to indulge in?
Grilled Cheese with Guacamole and Bacon (Makes 2 sandwiches)
4 slices bread
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons cream cheese
1 avocado, mashed up
6 ounces white or orange Cheddar cheese
4 slices bacon, cooked crisply, cut in half
Butter each slice of bread on one side. Spread the cream cheese on the other side of the bread. [Note: This is the inside of the sandwich; the butter side is the outside.]
To assemble: Top two slices of bread, cream cheese side up, with half the mashed up avocado. Place half the Cheddar cheese on top. Place 4 halves of crisp bacon on the cheese. Top with the remaining cheese. Set the other slices of bread on top of the two sandwiches and press slightly.
If cooking on a stovetop: Heat a large skillet over medium heat for about 2 minutes. Set the sandwiches on the skillet and cook for 4 minutes, until golden brown. Flip the sandwiches, using a spatula and being careful not to lose the avocado and other goodies. Cook another 2-4 minutes. You can compress the sandwich with the spatula. Turn the sandwich one more time. Press down with the spatula, and remove from the pan. Let cool about 2-3 minutes, and serve.
If cooking on a panini or sandwich maker: Set the sandwich on the griddle and slowly lower the top. Cook for a total of 4 minutes. Remove from the griddle and let cool 2-3 minutes, then serve. Beware, the insides might ooze out the sides. If the lid is too heavy, you might want to consider resorting to the stovetop method.
